I'm so happy I had the opportunity to work on an illustration that's being used to promote Season 5B for the MTV series Teen Wolf. I painted hundreds of figures for the mural, with little vignettes for fans to hunt for within the piece. These small scenes of characters and events are a combination of things that have happened in previous seasons, as well as some mysterious symbols of possible things to come...and WOW...it seems that a lot is going to happen in season 5B!

Dragon Age Team Litho is out for pre-sale. I worked with Jon Schindehette on this project---he showed me three awesome sketch/mockups he had done to give the company and artist the right feel for the project. Jon S. you have mad skills! I picked one (I wish I could have done all three!) and got to work. This project took me way longer than I had anticipated because there were so many characters and tons of fun details in each of them that I lost track of time. But I loved every minute of it!
I was very excited to get the call from National Geographic for this project, (or any Nat Geo project for that matter), but this one was particularly cool! A chance to illustrate the discovery of a new species of hominid, Homo Naledi, along with the possibility that this paleontological site could be the first found instance of ritualistic burial... lots to be happy about! The above image is my version of how this scene might have looked, It can be found in the October 2015 issue of National Geographic. The images below are some of the unused sketches for the project as well as the 3d reference I made to help visualize the scene. Also in this article (on the cover of the magazine too) is an amazing head reconstruction of H. Naledi by John Gurche as well as a beautiful interior illustration that compares H. Naledi to other hominids in size and anatomy. Labor Day Sale! Starts now --- one day only sale! * Paintings: http://www.jonfoster.com/store/c4/ORIGINAL_ART.html

Happy Holidays! Jon I added my painting "Winter Fox" to my online store today. It was influenced by the fox I painted for the book "Nine Tailed Fox" by Jon Courtenay. I wanted to do a piece that was all about this folklore character.
The painting is oil on hardboard, Image size 11 x 11 inches, 17 x 17 inches with frame. Here is the link to my store: http://www.jonfoster.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html I would love to make a series of paintings centered around animals from folklore to contemporary literature. I would probably be the only person interested in these types of paintings, but I am aching to make a painting of Baloo! Does anybody out there know the character Baloo? I think I am dating myself... |
